Hikers can also access the Cucamonga Peak Trail from the Joe Elliot Yellow Post Sites, located near the end of Forest Road 1N34 (San Sevaine Road). This road is unpaved and only open certain months of the year. The seasonal closure of Road 1N34 begins on March 1 and extends through Labor Day to protect important fawning habitat for mule deer, a Forest Service Management Indicator Species. The gate will be locked and the road closed to non-authorized vehicular access. The public is still welcome to use the road for hiking and biking, but no vehicle access.
